About UsThis San Rock Art Project was started around three years ago by crafter Hein Marais (Papier Mache sculptor/crafter) and artist Bert du Plooy (BA Fine Arts) at the Mossel Bay Craft Art Workshops (MBCAW) in Mossel Bay, South Africa. The "rock face bases' of all paintings, pots and artefacts are built up by Hein and his staff - producing the three dimensional "canvas" of the Rock Art. This hybrid venture, merging Craft and the Arts, eventually became sought after, mainly by overseas tourists, in three categories.
As Collector's items. A range of San Rock Art products is on view at the MBCAW gallery in Mossel Bay which are copies of existing panels slightly enhanced to fill in the sections of paintings that had been lost because of weather deterioration and vandalism. The Second Tier of the Project is based on the re-arranging of images into a semblance of aesthetic composition, to encapsulate the cosmology and symbolism of San Art in one painting. Thirdly - San Art imagery purely as decorative pictures on coasters, Ostrich Eggs and San Pots, reproduced on a papier mache base. |
